Founded by four pioneering women in 1870, we are the nation’s oldest greek letter ‘fraternity’ for women. Our rich history and traditions are constant reminders of Theta’s guiding principles: social, intellectual, and moral growth. These three ideals stay with us throughout our lives as Thetas—just as it has for the thousands of other Thetas before us—first as active members and then as alumnae. When you join Theta, you join a community of sisters. Much as real sisters would, we stand by each other and support each other in life’s best and worst moments. We laugh and cry together. We watch So You Think You Can Dance (and Law & Order, and Jersey Shore...) together. We bake cookies together. We study in Butler together. We go on road trips together, and we visit each other abroad. But Theta is also a community of scholars and leaders. Our members are in leadership positions on the Columbia College, Engineering, and Barnard student councils, the Columbia Daily Spectator, Columbia Women’s Business Society, Columbia Political Union, Orchesis Dance Troupe, Rotaract, and Columbia University varsity sports teams. Our members have also interned at Goldman Sachs, The New York Times, MTV Networks, and Morrison & Foerster LLP—among others. Feel free to explore the site and get to know us better.
